Elementary school teachers, in particular, might want to watch for good game ideas." -Randy Pitman, Video Librarian back to top of page Watch a Sample!
Cooperative Group Games: Each game on the video
is 2 to 3 minutes long and includes a full explanation, demonstration, and
is played enough to show how it looks in action. What is shown here are
clips from a number of the games taken from the introduction with music
from the same place. If you use the quick
download, the quality will not be
very good but it will only take 1-2 minutes (if you are using a modem) and
give you an idea of what the game looks like. The slow
download will give you a much better
resolution but will take 3-5 minutes if you are using a modem. You will
need QuickTime Player
to view the samples. If you do not already have it, click
here to download it for free. |

Reviewed in School Library Journal, April 1998: COOPERATIVE GROUP GAMES Videocassette. Color. 20 min. with tchr's guide. Dale N. LeFevre. 1997. $29.95 (pub. perf.). Dale LeFevre demonstrates 12 cooperative group games in this video. Most of the examples are shown with elementary students and a few with high school students, but many could be adapted for any age. The games rang from low to high activity. Some could be played in classrooms while others require a play area. Two of the games reinforce learning names, others demand math or language skills. None of the games have elaborate rules or require long explanations. The short example on the video makes each game clear. There are very few props required, and all can be acquired easily. The games are simple, enjoyable, and give everyone a chance to participate. Anyone responsible for directing children's games will find some good material here. -Priscilla Bennett, State University of West Georgia, Carrollton * * Recommended by California Instructional Technology Clearinghouse, April 1998:
* * Reviewed in Video Librarian, September/October, 1997: Rating: Two and a half starsCOOPERATIVE GROUP GAMES(1997) 30 min. $29.95. New Games. PPR. Color cover. Game enthusiast and instructor Dale N. LeFevre introduces a dozen games aimed at elementary school children, with a few adapted for high school use. Games such as "In the Manner of the Adverb" (a kind of grammatical charade game) or "Make 11" (where, using scissors, paper, rock model, groups of three try to get their fingers to add up to "11") are not only fun, they also reinforce basic English and math skills, as well as require cooperation. Although the video is heavily edited (a couple of times, you'll begin to hear a kid complain "hey... wait a minute..." before he's abruptly cut off), it still has a rambling home video feel (there are no graphics, no special effects, no slo-mo - just straight-ahead occasionally choppily-edited footage of LeFevre and the kids). Still, elementary school teachers, in particular, might want to watch for good game ideas, or simply purchase one of LeFevre's related books. Optional. Aud: E, I, J, H, P. -R.
