Revised Edition improvements! Now available with printable text in English, Spanish, French and German. It comes in a premium package that doesn't break, unlike the old crystal boxes. Important also is the improved maneuverability around the CD making it easier to move from one page to another, and one topic to another.

"For my money, the 50 games presented on Dale N. Le Fevre's New Games Training CD-ROM make more sense in this easy to browse interactive format than they do on video... includes a description (as well as full motion video), and quick pointers in several categories... (also) includes suggestions for leading and adapting games..."
-R. Pitman, Video Librarian, May/June, 2000

NEW GAMES RETURN
How to Play New Games: A Training CD-ROM, $39.95 ($45.95 postpaid). Earthball (for current pricing, click here). Free catalog from Dale Le Fevre, PO Box 1641, Mendocino, CA 95460. 707/962-0514, dlefevre@mcn.org, www.inewgames.com/newgamescdrom.html.

Remember New Games - Earthballs; parachutes; aggression-diffusion games; everyone wins; "Play Hard, Play Fair, Nobody Hurt"? Some date New Games to a "Soft War" event conceived by Stewart Brand at San Francisco State. In 1973 Point funded the first New Games Tournament. Vivid memories of the 1976 Whole Earth Jamboree include a canvas-covered Earthball, six feet in diameter, chased across the field or kept aloft by a giggling circle of kickers. We still get mail: "Whatever happened to New Games?" Or, "Do you know where I can buy an Earthball?" We've been mailing back, "Sorry. We don't know either. Let us know when you find out."

Now we've heard from Dale Le Fevre, former New Games Foundation staffer, who's been keeping New Games alive up in Mendocino, while teaching them in thirty-two countries from Northern Ireland to South Africa. He's also produced two books, five videos, and now a CD-ROM with fifty games and guides for matching games and groups, and teaching cooperation while having fun. His catalog features all his publications, and New Games equipment - including, yes, an Earthball. - MKS

MULTIMEDIA
For my money, the 50 games presented on Dale N. Le Fevre's New Games Training CD-ROM (New Games, $39.95) make more sense in this easy to browse interactive format than they do on video (see reviews of Skill Games [VL-11/98] and Cooperative Group Games [VL-p/97]). Each of the 50 games (with names like "Captain Video," "Face Pass" and "Um Ah") includes a description (as well as full-motion video), and quick pointers in several categories - skills taught, space needed, equipment (if any), number of players, activity levels, times to play, and safety instructions. The prefatory material includes suggestions for leading and adapting games, as well as a listing of games by various categories. Recommended. (Available from: New Games, P.O. Box 1641, Mendocino, CA 95460; tel: 707-962-0514.) - R. Pitman
